Sound Station Music & Arts Festival is BACK!

The brainchild of Newcastle Live Music Taskforce, a dedicated group of music industry stakeholders and members of government, Sound Station Music & Arts Festival is a free, all-ages event to be held at The Station on Sunday, 28 August 2022.

This ground-breaking event marks the first time in history a music festival of this caliber will be held in Newcastle that features an all local line-up – including headliner The Screaming Jets, has a local promoter, and is supported by government and local business.

With City of Newcastle as the major sponsor of the event, festival organisers said the free community festival would give the people a chance to show their support and to also celebrate the strength and diversity of Newcastle’s live music industry - past, present and future.

“Newcastle has always been synonymous with producing incredible local live music and our massive line-up is proof of that,” festival director Nikki Taylor said.

“This event will celebrate and showcase five decades of local live music, while also highlighting the importance of supporting artists and live music venues to make sure our our city continues to provide an incredible soundtrack for generations to come.”

The event includes a diverse line-up designed to offer something for everyone. “Newcastle has a thriving live music scene that we want to grow and nurture,” Taskforce member and festival organiser Marcus Wright said. “For this festival our goal was to showcase the strength and diversity of our industry and that means paying homage to foundation acts as well as contemporary artists.”

Newcastle Lord Mayor and Newcastle Live Music Taskforce member Nuatali Nelmes, voiced City of Newcastle's support of the festival in celebration of Newcastle's vibrant live music and cultural arts scene.

“City of Newcastle (CN) is proud to sponsor the Sound Station Music & Arts Festival under Special Business Rates funding," Cr Nelmes said. "Live music plays a vital role in contributing to a diverse night-time economy here in Newcastle and CN recognises the employment opportunities and place activation that a vibrant live music scene can create. 'City of Newcastle is committed to supporting community events like Sound Station Music & Arts Festival. The Festival will provide a much-needed economic boost to small business and the city's live music and cultural sector, by employing local artists and local organisations to run and be in the event whilst driving foot traffic to surrounding local businesses." Likewise, Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp said Sound Station would be an opportunity to showcase Newcastle's vibrant and diverse musical talent, while at the same time encouraging Novocastrians to support the live music scene, local CBD businesses and the night-time economy. “Newcastle has an amazing music community, so I’m really excited to see everyone come together for this festival. Newcastle is renowned for great events and Sound Station will be no exception,” he said. Presented by Newcastle Live Music Taskforce in conjunction with Triple M Newcastle, Sound Station has the support of sponsors including the Australian Hotels Association NSW, Big Apachee, Coopers Brewery, Newcastle Herald, Newcastle Live, and Holistic Industries. There is no cost to attend Sound Station Music & Arts Festival, but a free ticket from StickyTickets.com.au is required for entry. The day will include a main stage, secondary stage with youth acts, art exhibitions, food vans, pop-up bars and more. Full line-up is as follows:
